September 15, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

The third Friday of the ninth month found 21 Huntsville Rotarians and 1 Guest enjoying the noon buffet at Don’s Family Style Restaurant in Huntsville.  President Ken rang the bell to bring us to the start of our meeting with an opening prayer and pledge of allegiance.  Secretary-for-Life Richard noted the minutes of last week’s meeting are posted on the Club website, along with an abbreviated version of the multiple pages of information given by Bishop Roy as the program.  Treasurer-for-Life Mark noted that dues are a little slow coming in from the previous quarter, and, he has sent the $50 invoices to Club members for the Pancake Breakfast tickets, and will soon send our next quarterly dues statements to members via email ( except Dub  who costs the Club $ .49 each quarter. )

Weatherman Dan was asked for his version of the weather, noting we may have chances of light precipitation this weekend and mid-week as a cool front is headed our way.  A finger count was used to remind us of a grilled steak dinner Tuesday evening at Shepherd’s Lodge.  Past Rotary International President, Ray Klinginsmith, will be on hand to honor our most recent Paul Harris recipients at the Party.  Dan reminds us to bring a covered dish as the Club will furnish the steaks.  Clay and Dan also mentioned that the endowment from Ed & Margaret Kimbrough to R.I. will come back, in part, to District 6040 in 2018-2019. Jerry & Dan asked the membership to be thinking of major projects that could be used to recapture some of these cost share funds.  Instead of a 50-50 cost share, it could be 5 or 6 to 1 match, enabling us to do a project of $10,000, or more.  Jerry Reminded Club members to attend our Pancake Breakfast at Old Settlers on Saturday the 16th.  Please arrive before 6:30 am with serving from 7:00 am to about 10:30 am and cleanup to follow.  Roy noted that the Huntsville Interact Club will assist with the event and show up for work in three shifts.

Our Leader then asked Kelly to introduce the program for today.  Principal Mike Nagel visited with us about his recent exposure to Regional and National School Principals and his attendance at various events and conferences to learn about methods used in other school districts across the nation.  Principal Mike answered many school related questions from his audience.

President Ken asked Clay for the Last Word, who deferred to Dub, then we were adjourned.  Dan Shepherd is on the calendar for next Friday’s program.
