October 20, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 15 Huntsville Rotarians and 6 guests attending the noon meeting of the Huntsville Rotary Club in Don’s Restaurant this 3rd Friday of the 10th month.  President Ken called the meeting to order and asked Darrel to return our thanks in prayer to our Lord.  We then pledged our allegiance to the flag of the United States.  Guests introduced were,  Past District 6040 Governor Ralph Capelli and spouse Suzanne,  Charlie Serio’s sister Glenna, and his grandson Kelton, and Charlie’s spouse Belva, also recognized guest John Ehrhardt.

Dan-the-Weatherman gave us a nice prediction of cooler weather next week with some temps getting in the 60° range during daytime highs with slight chances of rain.    Past District Governor Ralph mentioned our Club and the Foundation grant program that will provide serious potential project cost sharing in a couple of years, thanks to the generosity of the Kimbroughs and their estate planning.  Dan noted that Ed & Margaret Kimbrough would receive membership in the prestigious Arch Klumph Society, a rare event for local members, at the upcoming District Conference.  Named after the 6th President of Rotary International, this Society honors those large donors, exceeding $250,000, with special recognition and a picture at the headquarters.

It was Phil’s turn at the podium today, however, his program was too ill to be present, so, Phil filled in with brief memos and kudos to Ed & Margaret in their estate planning.  He also noted major issues occurring in local nursing homes for care of special needs clients, with reimbursement running low, the costs are shifted to local hospitals and caring centers, who are being inundated with expensive care need.  No answers were available to this pressing need.  The problems are not going to dissipate but have potential heavy impact on local service providers, some beyond their financial capabilities.  Many of the special needs clients are also indigent and have little resources available for basic care needs.

President Ken then asked Clay for the Last Word, who in turn deferred to Dub for a word to the wise before we were adjourned.  Next week, Richard’s turn due to an earlier trade with John Cochran for the program.  He has invited a speaker from the Air Evac Helicopter service in Moberly to come to the club and refresh our memory on this valuable service.  We were then adjourned.

Members present today:  Phil Brown, Chris Dady, Darrel Hansen, Dub Hayes, Clay Joiner, Gerald Link, Roy Morales-Kuhn, Ken Rathmann, Merl Riley, Mark Samp, Tim Seidel, Charlie Serio, Dan Shepherd, John Sommer, & Richard Tregnago.
