November 17, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 15 members and 5 guests today at the weekly Friday meeting of the Huntsville Rotary Club held at Don’s Family Style Restaurant in Huntsville.  President Ken called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. and asked John Sommer to return our Thanks to our Lord in Prayer, followed by our reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.  Guests introduced were Kevin & Vicky ( friends of Dan ), Zach Cochran son of Mike, Bob Ehle with KRES radio station, and today’s Guest Speaker, Sgt. Eric Brown of the Missouri Highway Patrol.

Richard informed the Club that Charles Fleming has a brain tumor and under going treatment in Columbia.  Charles is not in pain and is able to have limited visits from his fan club.  Dan was called upon for a weather report,  mild temps, seasonal weather with scattered light rain is the forecast.  Harry was recognized as having his 90th birthday on November 11th.  Then our Leader asked Chris to introduce his program.

Sergeant Brown is the Troop B Information Officer taking over after the retirement of Brent Bernhardt recently.  Sgt. Brown travels to several communities visiting with church members and schools about active shooter training.  Also, he visits with parents of school age children about sexting and sharing certain photos that could cause an arrest if involving a minor.  He informed us, too, that Missouri is very lax on driving laws and using a cellphone.  Many accidents occur now due to such distractions, and can be as severe as a driver that may be intoxicated or under drug influence.  The Missouri Legislature may be addressing some of these concerns in upcoming legislation.  The patrol will be out in force this Thanksgiving Holiday season.

Our Leader next asked Clay for the Last Word, then we were adjourned.  No meeting next Friday due to the Thanksgiving Holiday, also,  Don’s will close for vacation the last week of December so we will not meet on the 29th.

Members present today:   Phil Brown, Mike Cochran, Jerry Crutchfield, Chris Dady, Harry Hall, Dub Hayes, Clay Joiner, Ken Rathmann, Merl Riley, Mark Samp, Tim Seidel, Charlie Serio, Dan Shepherd, John Sommer,  & Richard Tregnago.
