May 9, 2018 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 14 Club Members and 3 Guests present for the 2nd meeting of the 5th month of year 2018  at Don’s Family Style Buffet in Huntsville.  President Ken rang the bell at 12:30 PM and opened the meeting with a request to Brother Darrel to give a prayer of Thanks to our Lord, then we gave our Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.  Guests introduced were Liz ( Roy’s daughter ), and Guest Speakers Linda Fritz and Patsy Redding.

Our Leader asked Dan for the latest report on weather.  Dan gave us an unseasonably hot forecast with chance of rain early to mid-week.  He noted the dove-attracting sunflowers have emerged and he is taking reservations for the September 1st Foundation fundraiser at this time.  Send your $125 check, made out to the Huntsville Rotary Foundation, to Jan Shepherd in order to insure a spot that special Saturday afternoon.  Dan also reminded the Club of the May 31st Annual Fish Fry to be held at Shepherd’s Lodge.  Dan will be conducting a headcount the next two meetings, or, contact Jan with your attendees, including Rotary-Ann or special friend.  Please try to arrive by 6 PM and bring a covered dish AND a potential new member!  This is practically a free meal for the Club and great opportunity for potential new members to see the fun side of our Club.

President Ken then asked Chris to introduce his program for today.  Linda and Patsy serve with NECAC     (Northeast Community Action Corp ) and they discussed the services they offer and the region they serve.  Linda stressed the organization assists those temporarily in financial distress by providing some rental assistance and utilities.  NECAC also sponsors a home weatherization program, and is a resource for those in need.

Clay provided us with his Last Word.  Darrel will provide the program next week, Nikki Soendker with her Autism Awareness program called “Unfinish3d Pieces”, then our Leader called for adjournment.
