May 19, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 14 Huntsville Rotarians and 3 Guests at today’s Club meeting at noon in Don’s Restaurant.  President-Elect Ken called the meeting to order at 12:30 p.m. and after our Prayer of Thanks to our Lord, and Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag, the Guests were introduced.  Roy’s guest was Jeff Hammond, and our two Speakers were Patsy Redding the NECAC coordinator for Randolph County, and, Brent Engel as a NECAC Public Relations Officer.

Ken asked for any Old or New Business with none to be recorded, then, offered a great big THANKS to Jan & Dan Shepherd for hosting our Spring Rotary-Ann Party at their Lodge.  Also a big THANKS to Russ for providing the excellent fish that evening.  Dan warned us of possible storms coming then a warmup in temps.  The Club was asked to offer a project to be eligible for cost share match with the District.  The motion was made  by Mike Cochran and seconded by Richard Tregnago  for a $1,000 project, possibly again with the City Park, and passed with a voice vote. The documents needed to be turned in by the end of May to be eligible this coming year.

Jerry was invited to present his program. He introduced Patsy & Brent and they discussed the message of NECAC, North East Community Action Corporation.  Jerry has served as the County representative on the board for about six years.  Patsy noted the board operates on a 4.8 million dollar budget and funds are used to repair homes and update weatherization for low income families.  Several homes have been upgraded in the region due to the participation of NECAC.  Also, they manage some low income apartment complexes that utilize grants and low interest loans from State resources so comfortable safe housing is available to less fortunate families.

Ken asked Clay for the Last Word and he deferred to Dub, then we were adjourned.  Chris Dady has the program for next Friday.

Members present today: Mike Cochran, Jerry Crutchfield, Charles Fleming, Dub Hayes, Russ John, Clay Joiner,  Gerald Link, Roy Morales, Ken Rathmann, Mark Samp, Charlie Serio, Dan Shepherd, John Sommer, & Richard Tregnago.
