March 31, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 17 Huntsville Rotarians and 6 Guests today for the final meeting of the third month of 2017.  In absence of our President, who is recuperating from surgery, and President-Elect Ken, who is in Jefferson City for the PETS, Bishop Roy took the opportunity to ring the bell calling our meeting to order at 12:25 p.m.  We offered a prayer of thanks to our Lord, followed by the pledge of allegiance to our Flag.  Guests introduced were:  Moberly Rotarian Bobby Riley, Westran Teacher Angela Rash, Westran Students of the Month Cory Burton and Austin Sears,  Charlie’s grandson Kelton, and, our Guest Speaker Elizabeth Lippelmann.

Having no Old or New Business on the agenda, we noted our weatherman was swimming with the fishes near the Cayman Islands and was unable to give a local perspective.

Our Leader today then called upon Kelly to introduce the Guest Speaker’s instructor, Ms. Rash, who shared with us the honors our Guest Speaker had bestowed upon her in several speech assemblies.  Today’s Speaker was Elizabeth Lippelman who presented a somber message on the topic of suicide.  Throughout her testimony, Elizabeth provided a very emotional dialogue about the impact of suicide on surviving family and friends.  Emphasis was placed on keeping alert to hidden signs a loved one is contemplating taking their life.  Elizabeth is a survivor of the tragedy of losing her Mom from suicide.  The presentation was worthy of the honors this young woman has earned, and, her message brought a somber reflection upon many in this audience.

Roy noted that Darrel’s wife is undergoing treatments and to hold her in our prayers, then he adjourned the meeting.  Next week is John Sommer’s turn at the podium.

Members present today:  Phil Brown, John Cochran, Mike Cochran, Jerry Crutchfield, Chris Dady, Charles Fleming, Harry Hall, Dub Hayes, Gerald Link, Roy Morales, Mark Nichols, Merl Riley, Mark Samp, Charlie Serio, Kelly Shelby, Richard Tregnago, & Wayne Wilcox.
