June 9, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

This 2nd Friday of the 6th month found 19 Huntsville Rotarians and 2 Guests enjoying the noon buffet at Don’s Family Style Restaurant.  President Tim rang the bell at 12:25 p.m. and asked Ken to return our Thanks to our Lord in Prayer, followed by the reciting of the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.

Visitors  recognized were Moberly Rotarian, Bill Stuart, and Guest Speaker Brian Wood.  Clay brought us up to speed on the District Grant process and the Club decided to again work with the Huntsville City Park Board on improvements in the park near our shelter house.  Weatherman Dan gave us a hot forecast and light chances of rain this coming week.  Don’s restaurant will close for vacation the week of the 4th of July.  Our Club may meet with Moberly Rotary on July 6th at The Lodge in Rothwell Park in lieu of our regular meeting on Friday July 7th.  Clay gets let off the hook for a program!

Harry was then called upon to introduce our Program today.  Brian Wood is a volunteer with the Westran Fire Dept. He became a volunteer about one year ago and gave us information on his decision to become a volunteer fire fighter and classes needed to be on the Fire Dept.  Also, updates were given by Brian and Merl Riley of sites for proposed structures to house equipment.  Westran Fire has the largest amount of coverage area, mostly in the northwest quadrant of the county.  There are approximately 20 active firefighter volunteers, with another 7 that act in advisory capacity.  Largest fire to date for Brian was the loss of the MFA facility in Clark.  Almost all local fire departments have an agreement to assist major fires and Westran sent equipment and volunteers to aid the South East Fire Dept. along with all other departments  in Randolph County. Clay noted that now, generally speaking, the rural fire departments have equipment that is utilized to extract people from wrecks. Also, the Fire Depts. cordon off an area for helicopter service at a scene, and are aided by the Sheriff’s Dept. in traffic control.

Darrel has the program for next Friday and it will be 6th District State Representative, Tim Remole. President Tim then adjourned the meeting.
