June 6, 2018 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

The first meeting of the sixth month of year 2018 found 12 Huntsville Rotarians and 1 Guest enjoying the noon buffet at Don’s in Huntsville.  President Ken rang the bell at 12:35 pm to begin the meeting and asked Chaplain Darrel to return our Thanks in Prayer to our Lord.  We then gave our Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.  Dan & Jan were thanked again for having the Fish Fry last Thursday evening.  There were 49 in attendance, including Past President of Rotary International Ray Klinginsmith, Past District Governor Matt Eichor, current DG  Alan Garner, and incoming DG Julie McCoy.  Ray bestowed the honor of Paul Harris Fellow on Mike Cochran that evening!  Dan then gave a report that the sunflowers were knee high and showing their “button”.  Dove Hunt set for opening day, September 1 at Shepherd Farms.  You need to reserve your spot soon as reservations are coming in quickly.  Weatherman Dan indicated we will have some hot weather the next several days with slim chance of pop up showers or storms.

Today was Dennis Gard’s turn for a program and he invited Mark Price to visit with us about his office as Randolph County Recorder of Deeds, a position he has held since January 1, 1991.  Mark stressed how his office has taken advantage of digitalization and is providing online services which are available 24 hours a day seven days a week year round.  Realtors, Title Companies, Mortgage Lenders, and many others use the internet connection, and, for a monthly fee, can look up actual documents for their needs.  Among other duties, Mark’s office handles Marriage Certificates, all types of deeds, and can record practically anything a person wants recorded as public knowledge.  Mark has embraced new technology in preserving all records and making them available to the public in a convenient manner.

We didn’t have a Last Word today and Roy is on the schedule ( probably traded with Clay ) for a program next week.  Our Leader then rang the bell to adjourn the meeting.

Members present today:   Phil Brown, Jerry Crutchfield, Dennis Gard, Darrel Hansen, Roy Morales-Kuhn, Mark Nichols, Ken Rathmann, Tim Remole, Merly Riley, Mark Samp, Dan Shepherd, and Richard Tregnago.
