July 28, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

There were 17 Members and 1 Guest today ( John Ehrhardt ) that were present when President Ken called the meeting to order.  Our Leader asked Roy to give the Prayer of Thanks to our Lord, followed by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.  Our Club Treasurer-for-Life, Mark, indicated all bills are currently paid, including R.I. and District 6040 semi- annual dues. Secretary-for-Life, Richard, noted our Minutes are posted on the website.  President-Elect Jerry said he was working on the Old Settlers Pancake breakfast and tickets would come soon.

Next, Dan was asked to give the weather and dove hunt update.  Mild weather for the end of July, should be past the hottest part of summer, slight chances for spotty rainfall next week. Sunflowers have been blooming and beginning to form seed heads. Dove hunt is pulling a “United” by overbooking two spots, however, Dan will find another blind for them instead of dragging them off the field. The contributions go to fund our scholarships through our local Foundation.  Dan also brought a pickup truck bed full of second planting sweet corn for everyone to enjoy.

Today’s program was provided by our new President, Ken.  Ken gave a brief bio of his life, including his childhood illness that led to permanent blindness in his left eye, and, his fascination to be a mortician dating back to his high school days.  Ken has over 57 years exposure in serving the mortuary science, working in Moberly then Howard County, then back to Moberly.  During his first years of practice in Moberly he joined the Huntsville Club and became President in the mid-1970′s and now comes again as a member and President 40 years later. He also noted that Rotary International theme is “Making a Difference” and Ken’s personal theme as Club President is ” Service Beyond Self”.  Our Leader expressed the position that we cast out our negative thoughts and replace those with positive ones and present those positive tones to all.

Our Last Word was provided by Ken & Clay, then we were adjourned to the sweet corn truck. Mark Nichols is scheduled to provide a program next Friday.
