December 22, 2017 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

The 4th and final meeting for the 12th month for year 2017 of the Huntsville Rotary Club found 14 Members and 2 Guests enjoying the noon buffet at Don’s Family Style Restaurant in Huntsville.  Bishop Roy was called upon by our President, Ken, to offer our Thanks to our Lord, followed by our reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  Guests introduced were John Ehrhardt and Rob Cater who is also today’s program.

Weatherman Dan gave us a colder forecast with chances of precipitation this weekend, possibly snow, and somewhat seasonably cold next week, too.  There was no New or Old Business to report.  This restaurant will close for vacation next week and reopen January 2nd, so, Huntsville Rotary will not meet on Friday the 29th of December.

Our Leader recognized John Sommer who will leave our Club and begin Missionary work in Haiti soon and thanked him for his years of Rotary Service.  Tim Seidel was also recognized as the new proud papa of twin girls!  Charles Fleming is currently residing at Ravenwood Assisted Living in Moberly and our Club was invited by Bishop Roy to visit him soon.  It is normally better to have one of Ravenwood’s staff escort visitors to his room, possibly early afternoon schedule.  Charles medications keep him somewhat sleepy so short visits are important.

Dub was recognized as bringing a program, and he introduced Rob Cater with Bank of Cairo & Moberly. Rob is well known by most Club Members and he gave a brief memory tour of the founding of the bank and its’ involvement in the community.  He also talked about his grandfather starting Cater Funeral Home and its’ history.  Many questions were offered to Rob and the walk down memory lane was enlightening.  Also noted that his father, Jerry Cater, was the only certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor in the county for many years.  Many times, a local funeral home received the emergency calls because there were no ambulance districts in the area.  Rob noted that his father was very dedicated to providing emergency service, and, is also as being involved with 25 baby deliveries, many in the vehicle that was a hearse for all practical purposes , but also served as an ambulance.

Clay was called upon for the Last Word, notably Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all, then we were adjourned.  We will return on Friday January 5th, with Clay as program chair for the day.

Members present today:  Phil Brown, Jerry Crutchfield, Chris Dady, Dub Hayes, Clay Joiner, Gerald Link, Roy Morales, Ken Rathmann, Mark Samp, Tim Seidel, Dan Shepherd, John Sommer, Richard Tregnago, and Wayne Wilcox.
