April 18, 2018 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

The 3rd meeting of the 4th month of year 2018 found 16 Huntsville Rotarians and 1 Guest enjoying the noon buffet at NELLY’S Restaurant in Moberly.  Our regular meeting location, Don’s Family Restaurant,  had a prior reservation that prompted our Club to procure today’s site.  Next Wednesday, April 25th, we will return to Huntsville.

President Ken rang the bell at 12:30 PM to begin our meeting.  Except for our program, no other visitors were recognized.  Secretary-for-Life Richard mentioned he had emailed Club members info on the April 28th District Assembly.  He also noted he had a makeup on the island of Saint Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean on March 23rd and informed our members how it was on the island.  Their Club was formed about 50 years ago and they sponsor an Interact Club as well as a Rotaract Club.  They have about 45 members and the men wore business attire, less jackets. Very friendly group and about 1/3 members are female, and JoAnna Charles is current President.

Our Leader recognized Clay and he reported the Club’s Project, Park Benches, have been delivered from the Moberly Correctional Center to Huntsville City for installation at the City Park.  Weatherman Dan gave us a mild report for next week with little chance for rain.  This week should terminate anymore freezing conditions as we make way for Spring. Dan also reported he had gone on a Rotary SCUBA Dive near Belize.  Jan & Dan have travelled many corners of this planet to take lots of great underwater pictures of fishes!

President Ken then turned the program over to S4L Richard, filling in for Wayne who had traded dates with John Cochran.  He introduced Macon Electric Cooperative staff member, Allie Foster.  Allie has been with the Coop for two years and works with  grant programs and Economic Development Assistance through Macon Electric.  She stressed that some of the programs are designed for assistance even if the organization participating is not directly a Coop member, but, may service some members.  Allie brought some folders with information that could be of assistance in applying for grants.  Also, she visited with us about the Coop’s involvement with industry and its’ participation with Poet Refinery in Macon.

Next week is Mike Cochran’s turn for a program, however, due to our change of meeting dates he is unable to attend on Wednesdays at this time.  We will have an alternate program that day, April 25th.  Roy informed us that we will sponsor the Interact Club at Don’s Restaurant on May 2nd and he will contact Josh with an approximate count of students. Clay gave us the Last Word and President Ken adjourned the meeting.
