April 11, 2018 Huntsville Rotary Club Minutes

Huntsville Rotary Club is now meeting on Wednesdays at noon at Don’s Family Style Restaurant in Huntsville.  As you may know, the Fridays were increasingly becoming overcrowded due to serving fish, which could be easily compared to their fried chicken in culinary appeal.  Please note that due to Don’s prior scheduling, our Club will not meet at Don’s April 18th, but, will instead go to Nelly’s middle banquet room for one day only, then return to Huntsville each Wednesday from now until ?

President Ken rang the opening bell at 12:30 PM and asked Bishop Roy to return our thanks to our Lord in prayer, followed by our reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to our Flag.  New member Dennis Gard introduced his guest, Reverend Kevin Keeling. No other visitors were present and 13 of our members were present.  Our Globe trotting, SCUBA diving weather prognosticator is researching the effects of climate change on the reefs near Belize this week, hopefully he will meet us at Nelly’s for his updates, opinions, or alternative fact findings.  However, long absent member, Harry, was  offered the duty to enlighten this group of current, local weather and he provided us with what we all have been looking for this spring.  Seasonally warm a few days, with sunshine and some clouds during the day, and darkness at night.  Kudos to our fill-in-forecaster!

Our Leader asked Clay for an update on our Huntsville City Park Project which we applied for a District Grant for benches.  Clay proudly proclaimed the new benches were made and sent to the Moberly Correction Center. Hopefully, we can bond them out of incarceration and get them installed in Huntsville soon.  President-Elect Jerry mentioned that he & Clay had attended the PETS in Jefferson City a couple of weeks ago and gave a positive feedback on the training.  S4L Richard reminded the Club that Josh is willing to provide us the 3rd entrée in our meeting, as long as we fully utilize it and not let a significant amount go to waste.  Today we had BBQ ribs and consumed 95% of the offering.

President Ken next presented to new member Dennis the Rotary Welcoming folder and badge, then asked Clay for the Last Word before adjourning.    Next week, Wayne will provide the program ( traded with John C. ) if his previous schedule for Friday can be changed to Wednesday.  We will meet at noon at Nelly’s on April 18th for one meeting then revert to Don’s every Wednesday after that.

Members present today:   Jerry Crutchfield, Chris Dady, Dennis Gard, Harry Hall,  Clay Joiner, Roy Morales-Kuhn, Ken Rathmann, Merl Riley, Mark Samp, Charlie Serio, Kelly Shelby, Richard Tregnago, and Wayne Wilcox.
